Studying Criminology at Benedictine University Mesa teaches students to be critical thinkers; to acquire, understand, and synthesize knowledge pertaining to the criminal justice system; to learn research methodology and how it can be applied to questions of the correctional process and law creation, law enforcement and criminological theory; and to solve problems independently and cooperatively. Students also study the political, social and cultural forces that shape the criminal justice system. A degree in Criminology can open the door to a number of careers such as lawyer, judge, police officer, crime scene investigator, youth counselor or probation officer.
Almost all of the faculty at BenU Mesa have had previous careers in the criminal justice field, so our students have incredible resources directly at their fingertips. Students have gained valuable experience at the Mesa Police Department, with victim advocate groups, and even in the office of prison minstry.
Benedictine University’s Criminal Justice Club will prepare individuals to analyze effects of crime in communities, societies, and differing cultures as well as develop students’ criminological skills. This club will adequately equip students with invaluable information and experiences that will have lasting impacts. This club will instill high values and morals upon each individual. All students will develop an appreciation for justice and equality. The Criminal Justice Club aims to enlighten students’ knowledge about the various parts in this field of work by fundraising participation in community events, listening to guest speakers, and collaborating with programs in the area.
