Derek Ferguson, Chief of University Police – ext. 1101

Derek has (24) years of law enforcement experience Derek comes to us from Cook County Hospital Police. Derek holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration awarded by Benedictine University.  He is charged with coordination of all Police Operations.

Lloyd Popp, Day Shift Sergeant-  ext. 6654
Lloyd Popp has over (30) years law enforcement experience. Lloyd comes to us from Aurora Police Department where he served in patrol, investigations, juvenile division, SWAT, D.A.R.E., G.R.E.A.T.. Lloyd has also served as a school liaison officer for (18) years at varying locations (Waubonsie Valley High). Lloyd holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Benedictine University. Lloyd is our Court Services (DuPage & Will Counties)Liaison, A firearms instructor, Special Event Commander and creator of the Commander Baldilocks Jr. Police Academy, Substance Abuse Prevention Program Intervention (SAAPI), Ask a Cop and Memorial Tree program, commemorating fallen officers.

Steve Vanloan, Day Shift Sergeant-  ext.1103
Steve, has (25) years of Policing experience and is a retired Sergeant from North Aurora Police Department. Steve holds an Associate's degree in law enforcement and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Behavioral Science.  Steve has worked in juvenile operations, investigations, patrol, evidence unit and served as a firearms instructor.

Brian Sawyer, Night Shift Sergeant- ext. 1102
Brian Sawyer comes to us from the Campton Hills Police Department where he served as a Sergeant.  Brian is retired from Woodridge Police Department, where he served as a School Resource Officer a number of years.  Brian has over (30) years of law enforcement experience.  Brian served in the Iraq Police Mission to help train new Iraqi police officers in international policing techniques. Brian serves as a patrol rifle instructor.

Debbie Vanderploeg, Night Shift Sergeant-  ext. 1104
Debbie has (15) years of municipal law enforcement experience.  Debbie was a police officer for the Village of Wooddale and Village of Glen Ellyn. Debbie took a short break from police work, to start a family.  Debbie has since returned to law enforcement.  Debbie started at BenU as a Community Service Officer.   Debbie is a member of the bike unit, evidence technician and Taser instructor. Debbie also serves as an Investigator.

Police Officers

Brad Wilcoxon, Day Shift Police Officer
Brad has (30) years of municipal law enforcement experience. Brad retired from the Elmhurst Police Department after (23.5) years, where he ended his career in the evidence unit. Brad served in both patrol and the evidence unit. Prior to Elmhurst, Brad was employed with the Dupage County Corrections for (6.5) years. Brad also works part-time at Elmhurst College in the Security Department.

Duane Hazelwood, Day Shift Police Officer
Duane has (23) years of municipal law enforcement experience. Duane comes to us from Aurora Police Department where he retired as a patrol sergeant. Duane participated on the Aurora Police SWAT team and often acted as the watch commander for a given shift at Aurora Police Department. Duane also acts as the departments Lead Investigator.

Jay Dunn, Day Shift Police Officer
Jay has over (23) years of municipal law enforcement experience. Jay comes to us from Aurora Police Department where he retired as a patrol officer. Jay most recently worked as an investigator at the Child Advocacy Center for Kane County. Jay is an alumni of Benedictine University and holds a master's degree in clinical psychology.

John Rogacki, Night Shift Police Officer (K9)
John Rogacki has over (30) years of police experience in the municipal setting. John is retired from Norridge Police Department. John is also a music teacher. John is currently Benedictine University Police Department's K9 handler. His partner is Sophie a Golden Retriever. John has (19) years experience in K9 patrol operations.

Kevin Triplett, Night Shift Police Officer
Kevin, has (24) years of Policing experience and is a retired Sergeant from Aurora Police Department. Kevin has worked in evidence operations, juvenile operations, patrol, SWAT and was a school resource officer.

Robert Witt, Night Shift Police Officer
Robert Witt has worked in municipal law enforcement prior to Benedictine University. Robert worked at the Woodridge Police Department. Robert holds a bachelors degree in Political Science and hopes to work on his masters degree while working at Benedictine University. Rob has served Benedictine University as a Community Service Officer in the past.

Community Service Officers

William Torres - Power Shift, Will is a Community Service Officer who handles non-criminal calls in various locations around campus and oversees security of campus buildings.He also assists police officers with various issues around campus.

Travis Pemberton- Power Shift, Travis is a Community Service Officer who handles non-criminal calls in various locations around campus and oversees security of campus buildings.  Travis also assists police officers with various issues around campus. Travis holds an Associate's Degree.

Dispatch Staff

Amanda Warren- Police Dispatch Coordinator, Amanda is the Coordinator & Supervisor for the Dispatch Center along with handling all of the Department's technology & records.  

Bart Cole- Dispatcher, Bart handles phone calls, walk-ins, and radio calls from the community, visitors, faculty, staff, students, and officers.  Dispatchers operate 24/7, 365 days a year.  On campus, their are emergency call boxes and we have emergency & non-emergency lines. 

Claude Ortega- Dispatcher, Claude handles phone calls, walk-ins, and radio calls from the community, visitors, faculty, staff, students, and officers.  Dispatchers operate 24/7, 365 days a year.  On campus, their are emergency call boxes and we have emergency & non-emergency lines. 

Justin Velguth- Dispatcher, Justin handles phone calls, walk-ins, and radio calls from the community, visitors, faculty, staff, students, and officers.  Dispatchers operate 24/7, 365 days a year.  On campus, their are emergency call boxes and we have emergency & non-emergency lines. 

Paty Monarrez- Dispatcher, Paty handles phone calls, walk-ins, and radio calls from the community, visitors, faculty, staff, students, and officers.  Dispatchers operate 24/7, 365 days a year.  On campus, their are emergency call boxes and we have emergency & non-emergency lines. 

Larry Cunningham- Security, Larry works at our Naperville Operational Center as our front guard and fields all visitors. He is the front line to all staff on site and is the point of contact for all needs for the staff there.
