Twenty minutes on a treadmill and a circuit or two can relieve stress and refresh the mind. Or how about joining a group fitness class or organizing an intramural basketball team?

The Benedictine Fitness Center in the Rice Center is an 11,000-square-foot facility open to faculty, staff and students. It features a 7,500-square-foot cardio center, which includes elliptical trainers, treadmills, stationary bicycles, a private dance/exercise studio and a 4,200-square-foot strength training mezzanine, which includes both free weights and strength training machines that cater to a variety of users. Fitness Center membership is free for all current students.

Fitness Center hours are as follows:
Monday-Thursday: 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday: 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Fitness Center hours will be adjusted due to weather related issues and campus closings.
Hours will also be adjusted during holidays and summer/ winter breaks.

The Fitness Center is open to all current students, faculty and staff. Your BenU ID will be needed to gain access to the facility. You must wear appropriate attire: gym shoes (no outside shoes allowed); athletic shorts or athletic pants. No personal speakers allowed.

Fitness Center Locker Room Policy:

  • Cell phone use is not allowed. Absolutely no photography.
  • Lockers are to be used daily and during workouts only.
  • Bring your own lock to use on the lockers. No locks are to remain overnight.
  • Unauthorized locks will be clipped nightly.

Campus Recreation offers a wide variety of programs and facilities to help all Benedictine University students, faculty and staff satisfy their recreational needs. Whether you are looking to play intramurals, join a group fitness class, participate in an adventure activity, join a sports club or any of our other opportunities, there is something here for everyone to get involved in and have fun.

Group Fitness Classes:


Starting the week of January 27, 2020
Mondays - 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays - 12:30 p.m.
Fridays - 2:00 p.m.
Fitness Center Dance Studio (room 160)
No cost to students, faculty, and staff.
Classes will run approximately 45 minutes.
